 EchoStar starts in-orbit testing of recent satellite

  • EchoStar (SATS -0.4%) is testing its new EchoStar XXIII satellite after it had been used in geosynchronous orbit successfully.
  • The new bird is really a Ku-band satellite designed to offer high-power direct-to-home services to Brazil. It improved on SpaceX’s March 16 launch, the initial commercial launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
  • With XXIII in orbit, EchoStar’s fleet will continue to expand to 26 owned, leased and managed satellites.
