HOUSTON (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, while us president of Exxon Mobil Corp (N:XOM), used an alias for emails with employees and board members because his primary account was jammed with way too many messages, the oil company said .
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, that’s investigating whether Exxon misled shareholders and also the public about our planets atmosphere, wrote into a judge on Monday accusing Exxon of not previously disclosing the alias and Tillerson's climate-change communications through it.
Exxon denied trying to hide anything.
"This has been no alias employed to discuss only global warming," Exxon spokesman Alan Jeffers said . "It was a merchant account utilized for everyday business by senior executives who were required to reach" Tillerson, who left the firm at the end of 2019 to get secretary of state.
Tillerson received numerous emails on a daily basis from global warming activists and others at his regular address – Rex.W.Tillerson@ExxonMobil.com – and this got challenging to parse which messages were extremely important to promptly address Exxon's business operations, Jeffers said.
Tillerson used the email alias for eight a few years sent countless messages. Sixty-four of those sent and received met the parameters for Schneiderman's java prices subpoena and were surrended to Big apple officials, Jeffers said.
The email alias was Wayne.Tracker@ExxonMobil.com. Wayne is Tillerson's middle name and "Tracker" is likely a hitting the ground with his past involvement in the Boy Scouts of the usa.

Darren Woods, who succeeded Tillerson as Exxon's CEO in January, will not function email alias, nor does every other Exxon employee, Jeffers said.
Use within the email alias was seized upon by environmentalists , who said it revealed a design of deception.
"As long as they had not even attempt to hide, than why secrets email account?" said Jamie Henn of 350.org, an environmental group.
Exxon intentions to interact to Schneiderman inside of a court filing yearly a few days, Jeffers said.
